Application Open for Durham YouthWorks Summer Employment Program

DURHAM, N.C. – Durham youth ages 14 to 21 can now apply for the 2026 Durham YouthWorks Program, a summer employment initiative that helps young people build workforce skills while earning income.

Each summer, YouthWorks connects hundreds of Durham young people to meaningful paid work opportunities and skill-building training that prepares them for future careers.

The program focuses on developing essential workplace skills such as professionalism, communication, time management, and financial literacy. Some participants may also have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications based on their placement and program track.

What You Need to Know

  • Applicants must be Durham City or Durham County residents, aged 14-21 by June 30, 2026.
  • This is a hybrid program with virtual and in-person opportunities available.

Calling for Community Partners to Get Involved with YouthWorks

Community organizations and local businesses can also get involved in the YouthWorks program, and play a critical role in helping Durham youth gain real-world exposure to professional environments, develop career readiness skills, and explore future career pathways. Community partners may engage with the program in a variety of ways, including hosting youth placements, leading workshops, participating in career exploration activities, or volunteering their time and expertise.

By partnering with YouthWorks, organizations help strengthen Durham’s future workforce while making a meaningful investment in the city’s young people.

Interested employers, organizations, and volunteers are encouraged to submit an interest form or contact the program team at 919- 560-4695 or at YouthWorks@DurhamNC.gov. YouthWorks staff will follow up with opportunities that align with organizational capacity and program needs.
