When hip-hop/R&B trio TLC came together via the creative forces at LaFace records, the results were greater than any of them could have imagined. Built around the balance of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins’ sultry, contralto voice, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’ high energy rap, and Razoda “Chilli” Thomas’ soaring R&B vocals, the group’s musical chemistry propelled their debut, 1992’s Oooooohhh… on the TLC Tip, to the top of the charts. They would go on to become one of the most successful girl groups in history, performing for stadiums until Lopes’ tragic death in a car accident in 2002.
