In yet another instance of collaborations-we-never-saw-coming-but-are-still-eternally-grateful-for, Gucci Mane drops “There I Go,” a track from his forthcoming album Breath of Fresh Air which features J. Cole and Mike WiLL Made-It. In a conversation with Zane Lowe for a recent episode of New Music Daily, Gucci is claiming his new music is a strategic step away from what some of his biggest fans know him for. “I’m just not in the mood to hear a whole bunch of drilling and killing and this and that,” he told Zane. J. Cole, then, would be just the person to call on for a collab, as an MC who never needed stick talk to sound tough. Dutifully, Cole is the everyman hero here, eschewing rap’s prototypical flyer-than-thou posturing to rap: “I’m stacking too many chips to care less about a fit/I’m in some dirty-ass kicks watching YouTube/I’m cutting grass in designer like it’s Fubu.” Hear him and Gucci go off on “There I Go” on Rap Life, the playlist at the forefront of hip-hop culture today, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
